Mumbai, India
Wednesday 5th December 2012
So the challenge is how to describe the shock I was faced with when landing in Mumbai, without using the cliché "an assault on the senses"!  The noise, the pollution, the chaos on the roads is overwhelming when you're first exposed to it...I thought London was crazy but it's a haven of civilisation in comparison.  The first couple of days were definitely a challenge adaptation but now I am starting to settle down & I actually really like this place.

I have been visiting the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital whilst I'm in the city & the facility houses India's only formal sports medicine department.  Following a western model of healthcare, the KDAH employs 9 dedicated sports physiotherapists, led by South African Heath Matthews.  Heath had previously been working around India for the Mittal Trust & had also spent some time on the ATP tour with Sania Mirza & Mahesh Bhupathi, prior to moving to Mumbai.

The people here have been incredibly hospitable & last night I spent time with Heath, his fiancée & friends for dinner, which was a great evening, spent finding out how this mixed bag of South Africans, Australians, Uruguans & Germans came to find themselves in the city.  Tomorrow night we are heading to Bandra, which is supposedly the up & coming area of Mumbai, just north of the Sea Link bridge...should be good!!
