Concussion Management
Tuesday 19th July 2011
This evening I was in touch with my friend, John Geist, whom I met whilst working for the Pittsburgh Steelers at their pre-season training camp last August.  John works as an athletic trainer for University of Pittsburgh Medical Center primarily but also helps out with the Steelers as required.  The topic of our discussion was the imminent end to the NFL lock-out & the announcement that the Steelers' training camp will start at the end of the month.  At last, a resolution!!!

John's field of expertise is in concussion management & given his involvement in youth sport, is particularly interested in the management of students following concussions sustained in school sporting activities.  Earlier in the year John was a guest of mine at UK Athletics, visiting our HiPAC in Lee Valley, North London before flying up to spend time with Stephen (Mutch) & the Scotland Rugby Team during their recent 6 Nations campaign.

He is regularly asked to present on his findings & recently spoke at the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers meeting on the topic..  Click below to view John's presentation & I would recommend reading the first section even if you are not involved in youth sport as it is a current update as to how the concussed athlete should be managed in a return to play scenario.

Thanks John, a very informative presentation
