24 athletes, 8 staff & one goal - to make the 2011 World Youth Championships a great success for each athlete selected, giving them the education & experience to use it as a springboard to greater future success.

Each athlete has been selected based on their performance in a qualification period running from April 2011 to 20th June 2011 achieving a top 8 finish from the previous World Championships.  As a result it is fair to say that we travel to France with an optimistic chance of achieving podium finishes in several events.  Obviously, a great deal depends on how the guys deal with the pressure & occasion of a Championship environment.

After meeting up & being welcomed by our Chef de Mission & UK Athletics Talent Development manager, women's high jump silver medalist at the 1998 Commonwealth Games,  Jo Jennings, the athletes had an afternoon spent learning about doping control procedures & addressed by Katharine Merry & current GB 400m hurdles star Perri Shakes-Drayton.  Kath was entertaining, informative & above all truly inspiring, helping ease the apparent nerves experienced by many of the young athletes.

So tomorrow, we have an early start as we head for the Eurostar & Lille.  Check back here over the coming week for updates on how Team GB is getting on & visit the IAAF website for full up to the minute information on the Championships as a whole
